Notes with appreciation the progress achieved in cooperation between the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries and the specialized agencies and other bodies and programmes of the United Nations system, in particular the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the International Labour Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization;

Welcomes the signature of the agreement between the the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries on 9 November 2006 regarding consultation, exchange of information and technical cooperation on their respective activities in the field of human rights;

Invites the Secretary-General of the United Nations to continue to undertake consultations with the Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries with a view to promoting cooperation between the secretariats of the two bodies, in particular by encouraging meetings that enable their representatives to consult one another on projects, measures and procedures that will facilitate and expand their mutual cooperation and coordination;

Invites the Secretary-General and the Executive Secretary to start consultations with a view to considering the establishment of a formal cooperation agreement;

Requests the Secretary-General to submit a report on the implementation of the present resolution to the General Assembly at its sixty-third session;

Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its sixty-third session the sub-item entitled “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries”.
