Takes note of the launching by the Government of Mozambique of the national contingency plan for natural disasters to improve disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness and management, and invites the international community to support this initiative;

Encouragesthe Government of Mozambique to continue its efforts to fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and to implement the Action Plan for the Reduction of Absolute Poverty (2001–2005) and national development plans, with a view to achieving internationally agreed development goals, including those contained in the United Nations Millennium Declaration,1 fighting absolute poverty, improving national capacity for education and governance, reducing the vulnerability of the population and promoting economic growth and sustainable development, and invites the international community to continue to support such efforts;

Stresses the importance of international assistance for the development programmes in Mozambique, and expresses its gratitude to the development partners that have supported the Government of Mozambique;

Requeststhe Secretary-General to make all necessary arrangements to continue to mobilize and coordinate, with a view to supporting the efforts of the Government of Mozambique:
a
Humanitarian assistance from the specialized agencies, organizations and bodies of the United Nations system;
b
International assistance for the national reconstruction and development of Mozambique;
