Security Council Resolution 61 (1948) [Calling upon Interested Governments to Withdraw Forces that Advanced Beyond Positions Held on 14 Oct. 1948 and to Establish Truce Lines and Demilitarized Zones]
Takes note of the request communicated to the Government of Egypt and the Provisional Government of Israel by the Acting Mediator on 26 October 41 following upon the decisions adopted by the Security Council on 19 October 1948 ;
Calls upon the interested Governments, without prejudice to their rights, claims or positions with regard to a peaceful adjustment of the future situation of Palestine or to the position which the Members of the United Nations may wish to take in the General Assembly on such peaceful adjustment :

To withdraw those of their forces which have advanced beyond the positions held on 14 October, the Acting Mediator being authorized to establish provisional lines beyond which no movement of troops shall take place ;

Resolution du 4 novemhre 1948 [S/1070] Le Conseil de securite, de toute nouvelle decision du Conseil de securite ou de l'Assemblee generale, la treve demeurera en vigueur, conformement a la resolution 54 (1948), du jusqu'a ce qu'un ajustement pacifique de la situation future de la Palestine ait ete realisee,
Ayant decide, le 19 aout, qu'aucune partie n'est autorisee a violer la treve sous pretexte qu'elle procede a des mesures de represailles ou de retorsion contre l'autre partie, et qu'aucune partie n'a le droit d'obtenir des avantages militaires ou politiques en violant la trevc,
ulterieurement rejetee ou violee par l'une ou l'autre un nouvel examen de la situation en Palestine, en vue de prendre les mesures prevues au Chapitre VII de la Charte des Nations Unies,
Prend acte de la demande communiquee, le 26 octobre, au Gouvernement de l'Egypte et au Gouverne-
securite le 19 octobre 1948 ;
Invite les gouvemements interesses, sans prejudice position en ce qui conceme un ajustement pacifique
desireraient prendre a l'Assemblee generale au sujet de cet a justement pacifique :
1) A replier celles de leurs forces qui ont avance au Mediateur par int,~rim etant autorise a etablir des lignes provisoires au cl.ela desquelles aucun mouvement de troupes ne devra avoir lieu ;
2) A etablir par negociations poursuivies directement entre les interesses,

the intermediaries in the service of the United Nations, permanent truce lines and such neutral or demilitarized zones as may appear advantageous, in order to ensure henceforth the full observance of the truce in that area. Failing an agreement, the permanent lines and neutral zones shall be established by decision of the Acting Mediator ;
Appoints a committee of the Council, consisting of the five permanent members together with Belgium and Colombia, to give such advice as the Acting Mediator may require with regard to his responsibilities under this resolution and, in the event that either party or both should fail to comply with sub-paragraphs (I) and (2) of the preceding paragraph of this resolution within whatever time limits the Acting Mediator may think it desirable to fix, to study as a matter of urgency and to report to the Council on further measures it would be appropriate to take under Chapter VII of the Charter.
