Underscores the need to implement General Assembly resolution 57/270 B as well as subsequent resolutions relevant to the integrated and coordinated implementation of and follow-up to the outcomes of the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic and social fields;

Calls upon the functional commissions, the regional commissions and other subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council, within their respective mandates, to provide coherent support to the Council in the integrated and coordinated implementation of and follow-up to the outcomes of all major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social, environmental and related fields;

Recalls the commitment made at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 20 to 22 June 2012, to strengthen the Council within its mandate under the Charter of the United Nations, as a principal organ in the integrated and coordinated follow-up to the outcomes of all major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social, environmental and related fields, and the recognition of its key role in achieving a balanced integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development;

Requests, in this regard, the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly at its sixty-seventh session, within the framework of the review of the implementation of Assembly resolution 61/16, a report containing proposals for strengthening the Council, including its working methods, so that it can effectively fulfil its functions, and giving special attention to the integrated and coordinated implementation of, and the regular and substantive follow-up to, the outcomes of all major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social, environmental and related fields, to be prepared in consultation with Member States and taking into account the contributions of the functional and regional commissions and other subsidiary bodies of the Council, as appropriate.
