At its 46th plenary meeting, on 12 September 2008, the Economic and Social Council,

recalling its decision 2008/241 of 23 July 2008, by which it endorsed the recommendation that the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names be convened in the first half of 2009, and taking note of resolution IX/2 adopted on 30 August 2007 by the Ninth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names,53 in which the Conference recommended that the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names be held on the African continent, in cooperation with the Economic Commission for Africa, at a United Nations duty station:

(a) Decided that the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names would be held at the United Nations Office at Nairobi from 5 to 12 May 2009, to facilitate and prepare the work of the Tenth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names;

(b) Requested the Secretary-General to take measures, as appropriate, to implement the decision contained in subparagraph (a) above.
