At its 46th plenary meeting, on 23 July 2003, the

Economic and Social Council took note of Commission on Human Rights resolution 2003/43 of 23 April 2003,46 and

endorsed the Commission’s decision to extend the mandate of

the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and

lawyers for a further period of three years and its request to the

Special Rapporteur to submit a report on the activities relating

to the mandate to the Commission at its sixtieth session.

The Council also endorsed the Commission’s request to

the Secretary-General, within the limits of the United Nations

regular budget, to provide the Special Rapporteur with any

assistance needed for the discharge of his mandate.
