Takes note with appreciation of the report of the Joint Inspection Unit for 2025 and programme of work for 2026;

Takes note of the note by the Secretary-General on the report of the Unit for 2025;

Stresses the importance of the oversight functions of the Unit in identifying concrete managerial, administrative and programming questions within the participating organizations and providing the General Assembly and other legislative organs of participating organizations with practical and action-oriented recommendations to improve and strengthen the governance of the United Nations as a whole;

Recognizes that the effectiveness of the Unit system-wide is a shared responsibility of the Unit, the Member States and the secretariats of the participating organizations;

Also recognizes the need to continue to enhance the impact of the Unit on the management efficiency and transparency of the participating organizations within the United Nations system;

Underscores the unique role of the Unit as an external and independent system-wide inspection, evaluation and investigation body, and stresses the important contribution that its recommendations make towards improving the efficient and effective performance of the United Nations system;

Reaffirms the independence of the Unit as set out in article 7 of its statute and stresses that budget estimates are to be prepared in a transparent and consistent manner for submission to the General Assembly in accordance with article 20 of the statute of the Unit;

Reiterates its request to the executive heads of the participating organizations to fully comply with the statutory procedures for consideration of the reports of the Unit and, in particular, to submit their comments, including information on what they intend to do regarding the recommendations of the Unit, to distribute reports in time for their consideration by legislative organs and to provide information on the steps to be taken to implement those recommendations accepted by the legislative organs and the executive heads of participating organizations;

Reiterates its request to the Secretary-General and the other executive heads of the participating organizations to fully assist the Unit with the timely provision of all information requested by it;

Encourages the Unit to continue its efforts to maximize the efficiency of limited resources in implementing its mandates, and to promote a culture of efficiency within the Unit;

Takes note with appreciation of the efforts made by the Unit to enhance the visibility, understanding and use of its reports and recommendations across the United Nations system, as well as to strengthen its engagement with participating organizations and Member States, including initiatives marking the sixtieth anniversary of the Unit, recognizes the importance of strengthened and modernized communication and outreach to reinforce the Unit’s effectiveness and impact, and encourages the Unit to continue such efforts;

Welcomes the use of the new recommendation tracking system by participating organizations, looks forward to its formal launch, requests the Secretary-General to support the Unit within existing resources in its efforts to fully implement and make available to Member States the new recommendation tracking system, and encourages the Unit to cooperate with the Office of Information and Communications Technology in that regard.
