Decides to proclaim, in line with both the spirit and the letter of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, 14 December as the International Day against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations, to be observed annually beginning in 2025;

Requests the Secretary-General to bring the present resolution to the attention of all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society;

Also requests the Secretary-General to take the necessary measures and arrangements for the United Nations to commemorate and promote the International Day;

Invites all Member States and observers of the United Nations, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, to observe the International Day in an appropriate manner;

Requests the President of the General Assembly to organize, on 18 December 2025, a one-day high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate the sixty-fifth anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, with the participation of Member States and observers, as well as of the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Economic and Social Council and the Secretary-General, as part of activities to mark the observance of the International Day for the first time;

Invites the President of the General Assembly to organize, each 14 December thereafter, should it not fall on a weekend, an informal plenary meeting of the General Assembly to commemorate and promote the International Day, with the participation of Member States and observers, as well as of the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Economic and Social Council and the Secretary-General;

Stresses that the cost of all activities that may arise from the implementation of the present resolution should be met from voluntary contributions;

Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its eighty-first session the item entitled “Eradicating colonialism in all its forms and manifestations” and to consider it on an annual basis thereafter, in order to continue to advance discussions on this matter.
