Takes note of the report of the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity on the work of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention;

Encourages the Global Environment Facility to continue supporting the implementation of the three objectives of the Convention, especially its work on assisting the early entry into force of the Nagoya Protocol;

Notes the consideration of aspects related to the economic valuation of ecosystems and biodiversity in the context of the work of the Convention on Biological Diversity, including The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity reports, as referred to in relevant decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention at its tenth meeting;

Decides, following the invitation by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention at its tenth meeting, to declare 2011–2020 the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity, with a view to contributing to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020, and in this regard requests the Secretary-General, in consultation with Member States, to lead the coordination of the activities of the Decade on behalf of the United Nations system, with the support of the secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the secretariats of other biodiversity-related conventions and relevant United Nations funds, programmes and agencies, and invites Member States in a position to do so to contribute, on a voluntary basis, to the funding of the activities of the Decade;

Invites the secretariat of the Convention to report, through the Secretary-General, to the General Assembly at its sixty-sixth session on the work of the Conference of the Parties;

Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its sixty-sixth session, under the item entitled “Sustainable development”, the sub-item entitled “Convention on Biological Diversity”.
