Stresses the significance of the Agreement on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples as an important step in the Guatemala peace process and a landmark in the International Decade of the World's Indigenous People;

Welcomes the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Mission for the Verification of Human Rights and of Compliance with the Commitments of the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights in Guatemala; 4/

Takes note with satisfaction of the second report of the Director of the Mission;

Decides to authorize the renewal of the mandate of the Mission for a further period of six months, that is, until 18 March 1996, in accordance with the recommendation of the Secretary-General;

Welcomes the efforts of international and regional financial institutions aiming at mobilizing resources for the implementation of the Guatemala peace agreements, including the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights;

Also welcomes voluntary contributions already made to the Trust Fund for the Guatemala peace process established by the Secretary-General, and invites the international community to make further contributions to the Fund;

Calls upon the Government of Guatemala and the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca to implement the recommendations contained in the first and second reports of the Director of the Mission and to comply fully with their commitments under the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and with the human rights aspects of the Agreement on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples;

Reiterates the importance of the undertaking by the parties, contained in the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights, to provide their broadest support to the Mission and whatever cooperation it may need to carry out its functions, particularly with respect to the security of the members of the Mission;

Calls upon the parties to reach agreement on the item entitled "Socio-economic aspects and agrarian situation", currently under discussion in the negotiating process, and to strive for the earliest conclusion of an agreement on a firm and lasting peace;

Requests the Secretary-General to keep the General Assembly fully informed of the implementation of the present resolution.
