Food producing countries to takc ali practicable steps

To continuc and strengthen international efforts and machinery with a view to utilizing exportable food supplies with due consideration for the urgency of the food req uirements in the needy countries;

(D To take measures against any unwarranted inuease in the pricc of grain and other foodstuffs, especially such as would be detrimental to the interests of consumers and would mainly favour speculative interests without resulting in any real advantages to the farming population;

Countries which are largely ii;idustrial ami which produce transportation equipment, agricultura! implements, machinery, spare parts and supplies for the construction of workshops for manufacturing and repairing the essential categories of such materials, or which produce fertilizers, pesti-cides, seeds, and animal feeding stuffs, to take ali appropriate and practicable measures for expanding production, increasing export, and facilitating transportation of such supplies to countries in urgent need of them, and for facilitating the construction in these countries of small factories and workshops for the manufacture and repair of the most essential vent a se procurer des devises étrangeres pour payer leurs importations,

L' Assemblée générale, en conséquence,

Demande instamment aux gouvernements et aux organisations internationales intéressés d'adopter ou de maintenir les mesures destinées a concnne les céréales panifi.ables, riz, huiles et corps gras, produits laitiers, viandes et sucre, et tion rapide des denrées disponibles, sans tcnir compte de considérations politiques; et, en particulier,

Recommande:

Que les pays producteurs de denrées alimentaires pn'lllll.'llt toutcs ks mt:surcs possibles pour:

11) Augmcnter au maximum la production et la colkctc de dcm écs alimentaircs;

/J) Empccher la réduction et favorisn l'accroissC'mcnt des su perfi.cies ensemcncées en céréales;

1) Améliorer les services de transport des céréaks et d'autres denrées alimentaircs;

d) Augmcnter leurs exportations vers les pays qur souffrent d'une pénurie de denrées alimen- 1aires;

Governments and international agencies

concerned to continue and expand publication of the fullest possible information on supplies and requirements of foodstuffs and materials mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2 above and on action taken to carry out the recommendations contained in this resolution, in order that future action may be guided by full knowledge of the relevant facts;

That attention continue to be given to the need for measures necessary to enable importing countries to overcome international payment difficulties, in order that the above recommendations may be rendered effective in improving the food situation.

46 ( 1}. Economic Reconstruction of Devastated Areas

Approves the general resolution of the Economic and Social Council, the resolution on thc Survey of the Economic Reconstruction of Devastated Areas in Asia and the Far East, and the reso lution for continuing the work of the Sub-Commission on Devastated Areas in Europe8 ;

Urges the Members of the United Nations, the Economic and Social Council, and the specialized agencies and inter-governmental organizations concerned, to take ali possible steps, within their respective fields of activity, which may lead to the early solution of the problems of economic reconstruction of devastated areas;

Directs the Secretary-General to transmi t to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development the opinion of the General 'Document A/147.
