Takes note with appreciation of the reports of the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization concerning cooperation and assistance in the application and improvement of national information and mass communication systems for social progress and development,43 and notes in particular the recommendations made by the Intergovernmental Conference on Communication Policies in Asia and Oceania, held at Kuala Lumpur from 5 to 14 February 1979;•• 2.

Requests the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, in the light of recommendation 51 of the Kuala Lumpur Conference44 and of the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Planning Conference on Communication Development to be convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris from 14 to 21 April 1980, to study, among other alternatives, the possibility of the establishment of an international fund for the development of communications under the auspices of that organization;

Requests the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to continue to pursue his efforts to prepare an integrated model plan for co-operation and assistance in the application and improvement of national information and mass communication systems for social progress and development, in accordance with paragraph 3 of General Assembly resolution 33/115 A, and to submit his report to the Assembly at its thirty-fifth session, in the light of the Intergovernmental Planning Conference on Communication Development to be held in April 1980 and of the decisions adopted by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization at its twenty-first session;

Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its thirty-fifth session the item entitled "Co-operation and assistance in the application and improvement of national information and mass communication systems 4 2 See A/34/149, annex, sect. II.
