Endorses an increase in the number of volunteers in service to a level of one thousand by 1983 to meet the needs and requests of developing countries, subject to the availability of funds and with the understanding that the quality of the programme will not be adversely affected;

Requests the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme to undertake appropropriate actions to achieve the increase referred to in paragraph 1 above and to continue his efforts towards promoting the potential of the United Nations Volunteers programme and its various activities, including those in the field of youth and domestic development services;

Reiterates its appeal to Governments and other potential contributors to take into account the growing number and widening scope of the activities of the United Nations Volunteers programme and consequently to consider contributing, or increasing contributions, to the Special Voluntary Fund for the United Nations Volunteers;

Requests the Administrator to keep the General Assembly informed, on a regular basis and through existing procedures, of progress made in implementing the present resolution.
