Rea/firms the inalienable right of the people of Fiji to freedom and independence in accordance with General Assembly resolution 1514 (XV) ;

Expresses its deep regret that the administering Power has not yet taken effective measures to implement the various resolutions of the General Assembly and the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the lmplementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples concerning the Territory of Fiji;

Endorses the decision of the Special Committee to appoint a sub-committee to visit Fiji for the purpose 111 /bid., addendum to agenda item 23 (A/6300/Rev.1), chagter VIII. of studying at first hand the situation in the Territory, and requests the Chairman of the Special Committee, in consultation with the administering Power, to appoint the sub-committee as early as practicable;

Calls upon the administering Power to implement without delay the following measures:

The holding of general elections in accordance with the principie of "o??-e man, one vote" ft::?r the_ purpose of forming a constttutent as_sembly wh1ch w11l ~e charged with the task of drawmg up a de!llocrattc constitution and the formation of a representattve government, and the transfer of full powers to that government;

( b) The fixing of an early date for the independence of Fiji;

The abolishing of ali discriminatory measures so as to foster communal harmony and national unity in the Territory;

Requests the Secretary-General to provide all the necessary facilities for the visit of the sub-committcc to the T erritory ;

Requests the administering Power to report to the Special Committee on the implementation of the present resolution ;

Invites the Special Committee to keep the question under consideration and to report thereon to thc General Assembly at its twenty-second session ¡

Decides to keep the question of Fiji on its agenda.
