Urges States to take all appropriate measures to ensure to women, on equal terms with men and without any discrimination, the opportunity to represent their Governments at the international level and to participate in the work of international organizations;

Encourages States to take national, regional and international initiatives that promote women’s leadership in diplomacy, inter alia, mentorship programmes, institutional reforms, compilation and publication of relevant statistics, support for associations of women diplomats, training to combat gender stereotypes, and inclusive and multisectoral policies to ensure sustainable progress toward gender equality;

Decides to commemorate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy during one panel at the annual full-day discussion on the human rights of women, to be held during the fifty-ninth, the sixty-second and the sixty-fifth sessions of the Human Rights Council, including with discussions on the elimination of discrimination and structural barriers that hinder women’s participation and representation in decision-making;

Invites all States, organizations of the United Nations system and civil society, including non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, associations of women diplomats and other relevant stakeholders, to participate in this celebration;

Decides to continue its consideration of the matter and to review progress in subsequent sessions of the Human Rights Council.
