Takes note with appreciation of the proclamation by the General Assembly in its resolution 68/237 of the International Decade for People of African Descent, effective from 1 January 2015 and ending on 31 December 2024;

Emphasizes the need to urgently heed the instruction of the General Assembly contained in paragraph 2 of its resolution 68/237, and in this regard requests the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action to dedicate its programme of work at its forthcoming twelfth session, to be held from 7 to 17 April 2014, to the purposes of elaborating a programme of activities for the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent, drawing from the already developed and existing draft Programme of Action for the Decade for People of African Descent as elaborated by the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, welcomed by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 21/33 of 28 September 2012 and discussed in the report of the Secretary-General on how to make the International Decade for People of African Descent effective;

Invites the President of the General Assembly and his appointed facilitator for this purpose to participate in the forthcoming twelfth session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, as appropriate;

Requests the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action to present its final report in this regard to the Human Rights Council at its twenty-sixth session for adoption and transmission to the General Assembly.
