Recalls the ministerial declaration adopted by the Economic and Social Council during its 2009 high-level segment on the theme “Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regard to global public health”, and in this regard emphasizes the importance of timely international cooperation in the area of health and in particular in the prevention and control of infectious diseases, including the need to cooperate on health research and development and tackling antimicrobial resistance based on the principles of mutual respect and equality, in the context of the International Health Regulations (2005) of the World Health Organization, with a view to strengthening capacity-building in public health, especially in developing countries through, inter alia, the exchange of information and the sharing of experience, as well as research and training programmes focusing on surveillance, prevention, control, response, and care and treatment;
