At its 77th plenary meeting, on 2 March 2009, the General Assembly, pursuant to article 3 of the statute of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal, contained in annex II to resolution 63/253 of 24 December 2008, and on the recommendation of the Internal Justice Council,8 appointed the following persons as judges of the Tribunal for a term of office beginning on 1 July 2009: for a seven-year term of office, Ms. Sophia ADINYIRA (Ghana), Ms. Rose BOYKO (Canada), Mr. Luis Maria SIMÓN (Uruguay) and Ms. Inés WEINBERG DE ROCA (Argentina); and for a three-year term of office, Mr. Jean COURTIAL (France), Mr. Kamaljit Singh GAREWAL (India) and Mr. Mark P. PAINTER (United States of America).
As a result, the United Nations Appeals Tribunal is composed as follows: Ms. Sophia ADINYIRA (Ghana),** Ms. Rose BOYKO (Canada),** Mr. Jean COURTIAL (France),*
